MARS concept
Bowers & Wilkins
Introduction
For this project, I wanted to step beyond the scope of standard materials used in headphones. In addition to metal, plastic and leather typically seen in headphones like these, I decided to add the material that resembles the surface of planet Mars and at the same time evokes a feeling of holding a real artisan-crafted product that one can have at home. To achieve this result, a hand crafted polymer clay has been sanded to unveil its raw uneven texture and then covered with a lacquer. While the closeups reveal fine traces of a comb, looking at the headphones from some distance, one can almost see the Martian craters.
To make this concept complete, I added packaging made of the same material as the outer shell and headband cover. The last pictures illustrate the process packing a product into its case — with the product at the core of any out of this world experience.
